Kumbuk River is Greenest Eco Lodge in the World
Kumbuk River Eco Lodge in Buttala, Sri Lanka received the award for “World’s Best Eco Lodge” at the recent World Travel Award 2008, under the Green Awards category.
A well contested category with some impressive nominations saw Kumbuk River top the list bringing credit to innovative efforts taken by the lodge to reduce its carbon footprint in this rare and pristine jungle habitat, which is in close proximity to the Yala wildlife sanctuary.
Kumbuk River exemplifies serious attempts being made by Sri Lanka as an entire destination, to become carbon clean within the next ten years [2018]. The entire tourism industry is being gently but surely nudged towards adopting cleaner and more greener initiatives. Besides efforts taken by Kumbuk River, several other hotels and resort have also gained significant publicity and recognition for their carbon reduction efforts.
