You’ll pass the Roman City of Baden, famous for its thermal springs as you travel through the romantic valley Helenental to the former Mayerling hunting lodge. Today it is a a commemorative chapel however it was also the very place the Crown Prince Rudolph, only son of Emperor Franz Joseph, committed suicide with Baronesse Vetsera in 1889.
In the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz (1133) you will visit the medieval cloister which houses the remains of the last Babenberger. Keep an eye out as you drive by the Holdrichsmuhle where Franz Schubert composed his song ‘The Linden Tree’ before arriving at the Seegrotte.
Your tour concludes continues with a leisurely boat ride on the largest subterranean lake in Europe. You’ll you leave the Vienna Woods and return back to Vienna, passing the Liechtenstein Castle on the way.

This trip was very well planned, well guided and simply couldn’t have been done on our own. There were many aspects to it and all were interesting and unique. This Vienna Woods and Mayerling trip was excellent.
